Exclusive interview
con Joey Garcia Sr. del grupo Los Perdidos, 2015.
Cchwnn.
Somewhere in
Canyon,Texas. My oh my is this snow or what, I am Blanca Blanch Blanco here con
my new bicycle and a bit frozen, but excited to do this cool cold interview con
Joey Garcia Sr, del grupo Los Perdidos, 2015. Now for that interview.
Bbb: well hello big
boy, can you give me a warm hand off this bicycle it seems that I am a bit
frozen on to it?
Jg: Welcome
to Canyon Bbb! Yes ma'am, you came at a good time, we only got
4 inches of snow today! Looks like you're going to have to come inside
with your bicycle until you thaw out! Just ride on inside!
BBB: Joey, let’s
start on how long have you been in the music business and tell us a little bit
about Los Perdidos?
Jg: We started the
band in January of 2007. I have three sons that play in the band: Joey Garcia
Jr on bass, Joshua Garcia on accordion & lead vocals, Rudy Garcia on drums
& vocals. Primo Chris Cantu on percussion, Ramiro Sanchez on keys and
I play guitar! We play classic Tejano, but when we recorded our first cd, there
are 12 original songs written and composed by our very own Joshua Garcia.
BBB: does it make any
differences having family members as part of your band?
Jg: I personally
think it does! Because we're family, we all put 110% into making this band a
success! Any time we get together, not just at practice, we're always
brain storming about what could make our music better, what could make the
Tejano industry better! That's not to say that we always get along and
everything runs smooth, because we have our problems like everyone else!
BBB: on your last cd
“Cambia Por Mejor” what can we expect from the new one to be released in 2015,
different from the one I just mention?
Jg: Well, Joshua is
our writer/composer, and speaking with him, he'll tell you that the music on
the second cd is going to be a lot better than on "Cambia Por Mejor"!
Joshua feels his writing/composing skills have grown and will show in his
songs! We learned a lot recording our first cd and we're taking that experience
into recording our second cd! This cd will feature rancheras and cumbias
like "Cambia Por Mejor", but may have a ballad or two and maybe even
a hidden track! We'll see what Joshua comes up with! It'll be good, I can tell
you that much!
BBB: do you see any
differences on fans that come and see you guys as you travel from city to city?
Jg: Everywhere we go, people young and old alike,
come out! And that is a very good thing for us!
BBB: besides doing
your original music when you perform, is there other folks songs that you
perform during the show?
Jg: Yes Blanca! We
like to play classic covers songs as original as we can as a tribute to the
artist that made that song a hit! We play cover songs in our shows so that
people can hear their favorite songs of the past and we mix in our originals so
that they can hear our songs and get to know them! Joshua and Rudy have
different vocal ranges which allows us to cover just about any artist: Ramon
Ayala, Intocable, Michael Salgado, Los Dos Gilbertos, Duelo, La Differencia,
Estrella, Emilio, Jay Perez, Grupo Mazz to name a few!
BBB: has there ever
been a time that you ask yourself that this gig just didn’t cut it?
Jg: Oh YES! LOL! In
our early years, I recorded most of our performances so that we could sit down
and review it and decide what we needed to work on as entertainers! Every once
in awhile, we'll watch those early years and laugh! One day, one of my sons
summed it all up by his remark: "And we thought we were good!"
Fortunately, most of those were either free gigs or we played for very little
money! We've grown since those early years and feel much better about our
shows!
BBB: is there still
one performance that stands out in your mind from all of the ones you have
done?
Jg: There are a
couple:
The first was back in
2010, we had just played a jamaica in Kress, TX. and upon leaving the stage, a
group of people had gathered to the side of stage where we were exiting! As we
were trying to get through the people, they began to ask us for autographs, cds
and tshirts! We were stunned because we didn't have any merchandise, much less
a cd to sell! That's when we said 'Ok, time to get serious'!
The second was 2014,
Fan Fair weekend at the Cadillac Bar in San Antonio, on Saturday night, we
closed out the show and the crowd was awesome! About 30 minutes into our show,
Ricardo Castillon (La Differencia) came on stage and sang a song with us! That
was a shock and will always stand out for us!
BBB: do you believe
in UFO’s?
Jg: I have to say
that two of our band members do believe they're out there! Personally, I am a
skeptic! So, when I see a UFO, I'll believe in them! Until then - NO! LOL!
BBB: if given the
opportunity to speak with a group of young people what would you share with
them about life?
Jg: RESPECT! That
would be my life topic with the youth of today! When you have respect for your
elders and for yourself, everything else falls into place! Most important,
respect each other!
BBB; and now sir is
there anything you would like to share with your fan base from around the
world?
Jg: I wouldn't say we
have a 'fan base'! I like to think of everyone as family and friends! We've
played a lot of places and therefore we've made a lot of friends! Also, we've
met a lot of family in different cities that we've played! With that said, to
our family and friends: we thank you for your support, for allowing us to
entertain you and your family and friends, we have had such a good time
entertaining all of you! We look forward to the many family and friends that we
have yet to meet and entertain! We will see you soon! And to CCHWNN, we thank
you for your time and look forward to meeting all of you!
BBB: well Mr. Garcia
I want to thank you for your time in doing this interview, now can we go out
and drink a few but first can you give me a big hand back on this bicycle?
Jg: Yes BBB, don't
slip on that puddle you left on my floor! Thank you for coming to Canyon
through the snow and ice! Be careful on your trip back!
BBB: you know for all
those young people that think they understand la onda, eat your heart out, it’s
a family thing and family never forgets, I am BBB con on the road again
interviews, good day.
