Two cats recovered from inside a hot car.

And finally, several injured in a ten bicycle pile up.

It sounded like a great idea, so the Westinghouse barrio mall decided to hold its fifth annual bicycle ride through the hood. In the past any type of an event that included some parts of the hood was kind of risky says one of the organizers. But yet we took the chance again, and well what can we say. A small dog chasing a big cat ran in front of the bicycle pack causing the leader of the pack to sway from hitting the dog or the cat and running into a parking meter that caused him to fall back onto the road where at least 15 bicycle riders ran him over and caused a ten bicycle pile up. Several were injuried and charges will be against that little dog and that big cat.

It seems que John Morales didn’t realize que if he left his two cats named dog  in the car they might get too hot and cause some serious inquire to them, well it did and charges are pending. It seems que it took ten people to figure out how to rescue them cats, by just busting out all the windows of his brand  new car. Charges will be filed again him and ten others for breaking in his car and stealing some of his stuff. Chinga.

Yesterday el comparde Leon, passed out and took his last breathe in front of all his families as he moved his lawn. He told one of las commadres que he was feeling hot, and she told him que she was going to tell his wife that she thought he was coming on to him. But didn’t realize que he was hot and just passed out and died. No charges will be filed.

First of all mi raza when barrio companies report their profits and losses every quarter, some are making it and others are not. No I am not trying to say que todos las barrio stocks aren't making monies by being part of this market, but what I am saying es que some are making money, and are just making enough to stay above water. But is that not what business is all about, staying above water?

Now for that award winning barrio stock market report:
Los taquitos: one of the major problems con los taquitos this quarter is que local taco stands are doing a poor job of producing good tacos. Many of the emails we get on this topic, tell us que los tacos aren't what they use to be. Los taquitos ended the week at $1.19 each.

Las empanadas:
Las empanadas seemed to have had a great turn around these last few months. We are told que sales are high and raza are investing mucho mas on las empanadas,like never before. It seems que barrio empanada makers and its shareholders are really putting its profits back into its business. Las empanadas ended the week at $.59 cents each.

Las tortillas:
Many tortillas companies have reported how much of their earnings have kept them reinvesting and retained earnings. But they say que part of it is que small barrio companies don't disclosing what they would have paid in salaries and other French benefits to their now low paid workers. Las tortillas ended the week at $1.45 a pack.

Los tamales:
It really hasn't been a surprise recently in noticing el tamale market is on a bounce for this quarter. What real has helped this market is the well
coordinated and well organized barrio companies are getting. Now
que our tamale guy has not been seen for at least three months and our new
tamale expert has had a heart attack. We were forced to work a bit harder in
gathering this information for you all. One major investor told us yesterday que they were planning to expand its market way beyond the county lines. Los tamales ended the week at an all time high at $6.00 a dozen .

Now this is very interesting. It seems que el constable cadena was able to have arrested three folks involved on that llama thing we mention last week. Alcohol consummation report:
Here is a new twist in drinking or consumming alcohol in el barrio. Personal
responsibility: It is up to each individual barrio member, not our local or
state or even federal government, to make responsible decisions about your
drunk ass life. Personal responsibility raza is the key to a more decent and
just barrio and a just society. State, federal, and local employees, too, must be accountable for their actions, just like barrio members that don't have jobs. And that also includes bar and tavern owners. Cheap beer ended the week at $2.99 a six pack.

Peanut butter commadre arrested.

More birds found leaving the area.

And finally, birds of a feather flock together.

Yesterday this statement was so true que a group of bird lovers who know la commadre protested outside the holding cell after she was arrested. The group continuously  chanted “ birds of a feather flock together, birds of a feather flock together”. After a few hours of chanting this statement el constable told the group que they were all going to be under arrest if they didn’t chance the chant. So the group regrouped and came up con a new slogan “Men of my age flock together; we are birds of a feather, as the old proverb says.” No charges will be filed.

A group of concern citizens took it on their own to chase of any birds that were circling la commadre’s maria backyard to prevent any more deaths. The group told us que even though la commander had been taken to jail, there was still lots of peanut butter sandwiches out on the bird feeders and her back yard. We just not sure if those birds realize que peanut butter wasn’t good for them. The group of bird lovers will camp out for the next few days to monitor the situation.

And finally, Yesterday noon el constable y su security force 666 went over to la commadre maria, better known as the bird lady from el barrio and arrested her after the county discover over 100 birds die on her property. After a very careful examination by the county coroner, they discovered que at least 50 % of the birds had die from constipation, 25 % had lock jaw, and 15 percent just die. The main reason was  the diet the birds were eating. After the cops investigated they determine la commadre had been feeding them birds peanut butter thinking que it would make the more health. Charges will be filled.

Kingsville, TX. Hello, I am Santa Cecilia la que te canta con on the road again interview. At this moment I find myself on the other side of forth worth, Texas here in business. We are here today to meet up con a Tejano legend Elias Arredondo, now for that interview.
Sc: hello Elias, say can you give me a big hand off this bicycle?
Ea: Yes i can.... Come on in we can put your bicycle on the porch... Would you like a big glass of horchata? ....

Sc: let’s start how does a Tejano con a master degree from University of Texas Austin get into la onda tejana and by the way what is your master’s degree in?
Ea: I have been in the music industry pretty much all of my life and getting an education was very important to me. I pursued my goal in achieving my diploma and I'm living my dream with my music career. I have a Masters Degree in Computer Science.

Sc: how young were you when you starting singing and what was the first Tejano group you starting singing for?
Ea: Well lets see I started at the tender young age of 4. I first started singing Mariachi, thats always been my first love ....I had my own Mariachi Group, Los Caporales back in the late 70's til the Mid 80's. ....I started singing Tejano Music in the 90's with a band called Grupo Fierro and I also sang with another band named El Dorado
.
Sc: I noticed that you have had your share of being a member of different Tejano bands, what instruments did you play with the following groups: Fierro, El Dorado, and Amistad, and Hometown boys?
Ea:I was just the vocalist/ front man with Grupo Fierro, Amistad and The Hometown Boys. I played the Bajo Sexto with El Dorado as well as Lead Vocals.

Sc; how difficult is it to join a different group and what are some of the problems that come with it being the new kid on the block?
Ea; It has been an awesome experience.. these guys are great individuals as well as very talented musicians! I haven't had any problems at all.. Everyone welcomed me with open arms and we are very eager and excited about our future endeavors. I want to Thank them as well for believing in me and allowing me to be a part of the LEGADO Family!!

Sc: how hard is it traveling all the time on your family and your own health?
Ea: My Family is very supportive in my career and I am in perfect health.. except for a few extra pounds that I have gained from being on the road but I am currently hitting the gym and working off the Love Handles.. LOL

Sc: you are currently singing for a group named LEGADO, how do you feel being part of this band?
Ea; LEGADO is the band formerly named Hache Tres... We recently changed the name due to conflict of interest and to clear up any confusion. We have the same band members : Johnny, Stevan, Gilbert, Frank and myself, Elias.

Sc; how is your newest single " Me Declaro Tuyo" doing and how did that come about?
Ea; My Solo Debut single is doing great!! I have had a great response and am looking forward to my CD release named POR FIN!

Sc; being part of some many great bands how many awards have you been part of that those bands won?
Ea: In 2010, I earned Conjunto Album of the Year at The TTMA awards and I was also inducted into The Tejano Roots Hall Of Fame. In 2011, I earned Conjunto Album of the Year. I was also nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year and Conjunto Song of the Year. I attained all of these prestigious awards and nominations while I was the lead singer for The Hometown Boys. This year, The Hometown Boys are nominated at The TTMA Awards for Conjunto Song of The Year and Conjunto Album of The Year. This is the last CD that I recorded with them.

SC; on this new single you just released “ me declare tuyo” ( really) is this the first step of going independent and hopeful a solo career?
Ea: I am making my Solo Debut.. my Single release, Me Declaro Tuyo, is my new release and my Solo Debut named POR FIN will be making its debut in a couple of weeks!!

Sc: how long were you con los hometown boys?
Ea: I was the Lead Vocalist / Front Man from 2008 - 2012.

SC: in going solo how difficult would it be in performing single from your present cd?
Ea; I am ready!! I Love to be onstage singing and putting on a Great Performance for my Fans!!

Sc: if you had a chance to speak with a group of young people what encouraging words would you say to them?
Ea; Follow your dreams, get an education and never give up!! The sky is the limit.. I am living proof!! Never forget where you came from and always stay grounded.

Sc; what could be the reasons a person would leave a certain band?
Ea: More often than not there are disagreements with the business side of the industry and people are forced to make decisions for the betterment of their career.

SC: and finally, what words would you like to share with the millions of worldwide fans that you have?
Ea: First and foremost I want to Thank all of my Family, Fans and Promoters for being so supportive and patient during my new endeavors. I am back and ready for action!! I want to especially Thank Tommy Productions for all of the advice, support and for always believing in me! I also want to Thank MG Records for believing in me and allowing me to be a part of the MG Records Family.. The men behind this record label are Manuel Garza, Fernando Munoz and Alberto Ramon.. Thank You Again!!

Monkeys escape from barrio zoo.

Several family relatives held for questioning.

And finally, election debate turns ugly.

Yesterday several folks plan on attending a debating between two men and a woman from the other side of the tracks, but as the barrio members planned on crossing the tracks their car stalled in the middle of the tracks an were unable to move it while the railroad train approached. They managed to pull all twenty people out of the car before the train rammed their 1979 two door ford coop . No one was injured but all twenty managed to get to the debate on time.

After the word got out about them monkeys getting loose a full alert went out to the surround area law enforcement agencies. In one instants a family name Gomez were stopped for a short period for questioning, the reason we stopped them says one of the real police que the looked like changos.

As you might remember que the Westinghouse barrio mall third floor is the home of el barrio zoo, where you can find almost anything found in the hood. Well yesterday the zoo was shut down a few hours due to the fact que all twenty newly arrived monkeys escaped from the zoo. Gloria Guerra, mall manager told us que she thinks que they have recovered and captured all the escapees, but has not met con Ramon Ramos the zoo owner about how many monkeys they really had.

Ten tejanos arrested.

Card reader arrested for having too many cards in the same deck.

 And finally, barrio annual pictures schedule for next week.

Its been a tradition in the past and it’s a tradition now que barrio members are required to show up at the barrio cruz roja community center for their every five years picture. You see the center has a wall where the barrio is laid out and pictures of all the residents are posted on the board and location of where they live. This way we know who lives where and why. If you are new to the hood please call 918 and make an appointment to have your picture taken and point out the location of where you leave.  

El comparde roman ramos y su wife filed a complaint against Juanita Morales la que te read your cards. The complaint was que they had gone over to get their cards read, but when they were in the middle of a session, it seems que Juanita had too many of the same cards in the deck. She tried to explain to them que it must have been her cards that got the cards mixed up con a deck of old maid playing cards. Charges will be filed for false reading.

After a long investigation, Tejano officials arrested ten Tejano residents for wearing Tejano boots con shorts. Yes you heard right con shorts. For some reason or another many Tejano men  think que they look cute by wearing shorts con boots. Come on esa, only tejanas do that. charges will be filed. Con shorts, chinga chinga.

Dora Loca arrested.

Barrio school’s sends out uniform notices.

And finally, too talk yet too short.

The day would come when el shorty Martinez, the tallest man in the hood at 5’2” tall would be called to join the barrio day arm forces recruitment day. It turns out that he was the tallest of his whole family, so they all escorted him proudly to the center where they were taking names and address. The only problem is when they got there; there was a line on the wall that had a sign right above it that read: YOU MUST BE THIS TALL OR TALLER,     neither of his family members measured up to the requirements required, and were very disappoint that shorty wasn’t allowed to apply. The main recruited told the whole family to go home and start a new career somewhere else.

Yesterday parents of children who plan to attend the new barrio schools were informed que the new uniforms won’t be available in time for the first class day. The school advised parents to go a purchase the other uniformed that is available but not the official uniform at the barrio uniform center for the mean time. The new uniforms are schedule to be available sometime around 2033.

The daughter of esta vato loco a newly elected city official daughter was arrested yesterday afternoon when she confronted a few hecklers at the corner of third and wells. It seems she was waiting for the street light to change when a few tejano’s who don’t agree con her father told her que she should stay close to the apple tree before she falls from it, Dora in return told them que you all need to get a job you lazy vato’s and drove off and shot then the middle finger, and  ran over one of the men’s bicycle. El constable went over to esta vato loco home and arrested dora. Charges will be filed.

Modesto, california. Hejola my god i didnt realize que  California was so far from our home town Kingsville,tx. Hi i am santa Cecilia la que te canta con our very exciting interview. Before i say anything it’s very rare que once in a life time we are allowed to meet persons that have done some much for la onda tejana .  here we are in front of a nice place Vayabond hotel lounge, So let me introduce Johnny Hernandez. Now for that interview.

Sc; good afternoon, Mr. Hernandez, can you give me a big hand off this bicycle sir?

 JH: No problem, I got you. Oops, I wasn’t quite ready, I’ll pick you up.

Sc: let’s start with how it feels to be part of a musical family that has influenced so many and still today are on top of entertainment business?

JH; To be honest, it’s a very good and gratifying feeling, I feel blessed.

Sc; after listening to some of the cuts off your new cd “this time (again)” it mixes a combination of different styles, can you tell us how did that come about?

Jh; I went into the studio to record “50’s Oldies” music, but once Vick Nash Espinoza (owner of Jaz Trax Studio & Productions) and I felt comfortable working together, we starting going over ideas on some Blues and Smooth Jazz arrangements and so the CD became a multi genre project which didn’t surprise me at all because I love all styles of music.

We did a re-make of my original 70’s song “This Time” adding some progressive passing chords giving it the Smooth Jazz flavor, then we applied the same technique to a couple of Blues songs, “Further On Up The Road” & “Down Home Blues” rendering them “Smooth Blues”.  I got so inspired with the Blues thing that I wrote “Wicked Wicked Woman” during a break away from the studio. We co-arranged all the songs on the CD but I have to give Vick Nash credit for doing such a fine job on his part, I love working with him in the studio.  

We even included a Latino song called “Todo Me Gusta De Ti” written by Vick Nash that I was targeting to my California friends/fans because it has that Santana style to it.

But what got me to do the CD in the first place was that I wanted to record some of the great songs I grew up listening to and performing in the 50’s as a teenager, songs like “Just A Dream” “CC Rider””Confidential” and “Stagger Lee”, but like I said, once Vick and I starting kicking around some ideas the whole thing changed.

SC: Just for the record we interviewed him sometime  in 2010. let’s see, if I am allowed, lets go back to the beginning, were there time que you felt que the music business wasn’t for you and what time do you think you felt it was for you?

Jh: I never felt that music was not what I should be doing, I knew as a little boy that music was my first love, it still is. It’s not even something you debate with yourself; it’s just something inside of you. And as you grow together, music truly becomes your dear companion for life, one that you can always count on for inner comfort in good and bad times. It’s one of the greatest gifts to mankind from The Great Spirit.  

SC: would were your major influences when you were going up and what kind of music did you listen too?

Jh: Being born in a predominantly African-American neighborhood I was very much influenced by big bands like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Billy May with Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Billy Ekstine and Joe Williams as well as Blues artists like Jimmy Reed, Lightning Hopkins, Muddy Waters etc. and Bebop Jump Blues singers like Ivory Joe Hunter and Big Joe Turner and so many others on the Top 40 Hits. On the other hand I was listening to my father Salvador (La Cotorra) and my uncle Demetrio (La Arañe) singing “ Adelita”, “Prieta Linda” “El Rancho Grande” and “Cuatro Milpas” and playing their guitars at home, in the cotton fields, in bars etc. so I listened to American and Mexican music from the day I was born. My father was a big influence as were my two brothers (the eldest of the siblings) Tony (Top) and Porfirio (Quila), they loved all the great American Songs/Standards and would sing along with the radio and talk to us about the beauty and richness of these type of songs and so I grew up loving them too. Tony Top sounded exactly like Nat King Cole, every time I hear Nat on the Radio I say, get down Top lol.    

Sc; my god sir i am sure that you can tell us a whole bunch of stories while per traveling all over the world, is there any one story you would like to share with us that still stand out in your mind?

JH; There so many good stories to tell about being on the road, how people take us into their homes and feed us and become friends for life, funny things that happen to the band and not so funny things that happened LOL,  but the one that comes to mind is being lucky enough to go from the cotton fields of Texas to the magical city of Paris France. In 1992 I was asked to go perform in Germany for the Hispanic Heritage Month at Ramstein Airforce Base, that was something I felt very proud of, to go sing to our Raza in Germany.

When the concert was over, the Sargent  in charge of taking me over there asked me where would I like to go since I had a couple of days before flying back home? I said I’d love to go to Paris and he replied, no problem, I’ll set it up. Ever since I was a kid I always dreamt of going to Paris and here was my chance to visit this beautiful city. It was much more than I imagined it could be, a dream come true.

Sc; has there ever been a time that you thought you made big but realize it takes time ( big headed ego)?

Jh: I have shared the stage with some big names in the business (Santana, Tower of Power, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Miguel Aceves Mejia,Willie Nelson, BJ Thomas etc. but I always remember who I am and where I come from so no, I don’t believe that’s been a problem. The world famous artists I have had the pleasure of meeting (Johnny Mathis, Count Basie, Al Jarreau, Chick Corea, Stanly Clark, David Clayton Thomas, Chuck Mangione for example have all been the most humble people one could meet, they know they are blessed and they honor it by being gracious and humble, that impressed me greatly, who am I to behave otherwise.     

SC: how has life treated you since you moved to Modesto, california?

JH: I’m very happy to be in Modesto, I moved here in 1997 for 6 months and then went back to Texas. I’m here for family reasons, I go with my son to my grand kids Baseball & Football games, have some very dear friends, that’s all I need.

SC: in your opinion i am sure you hear this all the time que la onda tejana is dying, what do you think the status is for la onda at the present time?

JH: Tejano Music can no more die than the sun cease to rise in the morning.  Every month more than 25 new Tejano Music CD’s are released, (Source: Ramon Hernandez, Tejano Music Historian) and now we not only have artist that play and record Tejano Music authentically in Texas, but through out the USA, this means that the Tejano Music Industry is growing, maybe not to the satisfaction of skeptics but much better than in the last 15 years or so in my opinion.

Now we have the “Internet” which makes it possible for our music to be heard worldwide. It’s all relative, those who may have tried to make  a go of it in Tejano Music and failed will predict it’s doom, while those who have managed to remain in the industry will say it’s growing. As long as there are Tejanos on Mother Earth, there will be Tejano Music.  

SC: i am sure you are aware que many of the great tejano artist have passed away, how many of the greatest did you have an opportunity to perform with, for example Tony ham Guerrero, Tony de la Rosa, and so on? 

JH; All of them I believe, gracias a Dios. Starting with the God Father of Tejano Music Isidro (El Indio) Lopez, Sunny Ozuna, Alfonso Ramos, Ruben Ramos,Tony De La Rosa, Paublino Bernal y Su Conjunto, El Conjunto Bernal (without Paublino) Agapito Zuniga, Valerio Longoria, Fred Salas, The Sun Glows, Agustine Ramirez, Joe Bravo etc. etc. It’s been a pleasure working with these Tejano Music Pioneers.

Sc; do you think sir that Tejano musicians need to be more versatile in order to stay on top of the music business and not just tejano?

Jh: I believe all musicians should be versatile, in order to appreciate other genres of music and to enrich their lives by performing in different music setting like Jazz, Blues, R & B, Contemporary, Country and so on. This also gives them other “work” to make ends meet while they continue to advance themselves in Tejano Music.    

Sc: how much has the music buisness changed since you  first started, recording, live performaces,etc...?

Jh: Things have changed greatly in the music business since I began. The process of recording has changed immensely, now with the new technology available in the studio you can do wonders, literally. You can copy & paste a complete segment of the song and place it elsewhere, you can fix a single instrument’s pitch on a note, or change the instrument itself to another without having to record it again. You can use electronic instrument samples to simulate what ever sound you want, you can record a song and send it via e-mail to “Radio” with the push of a button and it’s there in a second. Regarding live performances, we have high quality equipment to put together some very awesome PA Systems and have your concert be shown and heard worldwide in real time. Imagine, on our first recordings Joe and I recorded on a Two Track Board with one microphone for me and he to sing into and one microphone for the band to play to, that’s as basic as you can get carnala, lol.

SC: i noticed that you have performed in lots of well known venues, do you still get stage fright?

Jh; Not very often but sometimes I get stage fright, it’s not due to this or that factor, it’s just a human reaction.

Sc; if you were given a chance to speak with a group of young people what encouraging words would you say to them?

JH; I would tell them to stay away from Beer, Liquor, Wine and all Drugs. I have been performing 100% clean and sober for 17 years now and it’s a much better high than when I was doing all those things I mentioned above. I would tell them to be true to themselves, find out what they want to do in life and go for it, don’t let anyone discourage you. And I would tell them to always put your best foot forward, you only get one chance at “First impression” and that when people ridicule you, take the high road, don’t allow yourself to be pulled into the gutter. On a personal note, I would tell them to talk to “The Great Spirit, God”, if you speak sincerely to him, he will listen.

Sc: do you ever perform with your family?

Jh: I used to perform with Little Joe y La Familia on “Re-unions” but I stopped doing that, partly due to business reasons and partly due to personal reasons. Next question please (o:

SC: and finally sir what you like to share with the millions of fans you have all over the world?

JH: I would like to tell all my friends/fans how grateful I am and how privileged I feel to have had the opportunity to share my musical life with them for the past fifty years. God bless y’all. C/S

Hello once again I am urbano yosabatodo con this weeks barrio stock market report.

It is good to see que muchos have taken our advice con los gastos de esta 2012 year. In order to be in tune con todos esto one must save and spend more or less. And if you can’t well what can I say, I told you so.

Now for our barrio stock market report:

Los Tamales:

Los tamales have remained stable all this week. Since we haven’t seen el tamale guy, we figure que he must be taking a vacation. Anyhow los tamales ended the week at $6.50 a dozen.

Los taquitos:

Its good to know que many small restaurants or taco stands didn’t close as many as we had estimated. Many just took a few days more on vacation. That is good for all of us. Now the real challenge for 2012 is  for la raza que have invested en on llamas production had some good news this weekend. They plan on having llama meat on sale start soon as a year from now. All American Tejano barrio family arrested.
Political rally turns ugly.
And finally censorship comes to the hood.
Yesterday barrio members living on this side of the tracks, heard que the city had hired a barrio member from across the tracks to censor chit found inside public bathrooms. One of his main dues is to make sure what kind of toilet paper is being use and always enough of it and also to monitor chit written in bathroom walls. He told this report que we are going to get to the bottom of who is writing chit on these walls and sometime to do con if you want a quickie call some chit number. It sad to say, he said que barrio folks have to take a chit to get inspired. Orally.

Yesterday esta vato loco held his second political rally after winning a city commissioner seat this past april. But when he arrived he found several want to be tejanos pissed off at him. As he drove by the crowd of about ten persons, they start throwing tortillas y tamales at his motorcade. At that time esta vato loco decided to get of the car and with his quick actions caught a tortilla with one hand and a glass of beer with the other hand and made a toast to all those “ways”. In return this small crowd charged his car and a fight broke out between those “ways” and his athletic supporters. After the dust cleared esta vato loco was able to get back in his car and his motorcade move on to the rally. Oh by the way esta vato loco in the mean time had enough tortillas y tamales que he didn’t have to stop for lunch. (Please note que when someone is elected to any office he always under pressure from those that don’t give chit about his views or polices.

When people mention Lucy y Rickie or June y Ware, or even Ozzie y Harriett, it brings tears to our eyes. Which brings us to our own all American family living right here in hood. They are far from the average Tejano family more like in the middle of being a happy family and living in hell. But this family lives more like in castle surrounded by moat and rarely ever seen. Wells yesterday health inspectors along con about twenty federal and state police raid their castle just at the end of Third Street. There was no warning give to the constable that a warrant had been issued for all thirty five members living there. At this point says el constable, I was told que he needed to block the entrance to the third street just above third and wells. At this time we have assigned our new correspondent Tejano Slim “ay te wacho” Jim to do a detail investigation on this matter. More details later.

Barrio business men arrested for using word barrio for their personal gain.
Two clowns and a small gringito busted for selling rubber Tejano hats.
And finally the name Tejano.
Wow how many tejanos does it take to put a tire on a 18 wheeler? The word Tejano has suddenly been a very attractive nick name to a lot of men and women believe that they are actually tejanos this last ten years. Can you believe the results we had when we searched the web for how many men and women have placed the world name to their real name? we found more 35 persons mostly men with some sort of Tejano added to their names, such as but not limited: Tejano man, goodbye Tejano, Tejano king, Tejano vato and so on. And in addition, we found at least 15 women also found it important to attach that name to theirs such as but not limited to; Tejano queen, tejana, blue tejana , yellow tejana, love bird tejana and so on. Now that the word Tejano is the key element for many of those that want to be cool, we wonder what they have up their sleeve and what their real agenda con la onda tejana really is? makes us wonder? What is in the future for words that would represent la onda, ACCORDIN Bill maybe, or Bajo Sexto Contraries?

Yesterday two clowns and a small gringito were arrested for selling something they called Tejano hats made out of rubber. The constable told us que he didn’t mine them selling tie die shoes or underwear but trying to selling rubber Tejano hats was something else. But the way el constable told us que had you seen them hats, heck I bought one and I dropped it but it bounced back right on my head.

Yesterday a so call barrio business man named, Cutthoe Onajetomaga, and his business partner, Vevid Onajetes, were arrested due to the fact que they had a small scam dealing with the word barrio. It seems that they would go out in the hood and used the word Barrio as the selling point of their business, promising ideas and plans they had thought up to raise money for the betterment of the barrio. An undercover agent, name unknown ( John Stronghold) set them up with a fund raiser, where all the profit would go back to the barrio gig, but they never did give the money back to that idea. Charges are still being filed.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW CON CRUNKJUNTO THOZE GUYZ, 2012

On the road again con Blanca Blanck Blanco. Hello mi raza como estan. As I arrived in sweetwater,texas, the all American city, I found the leader of that wild and new crunkjunto “ those Guyz” leader,  Steve Lujan. Now from the the edge of I-20, here is that interview.

Bbb: hello Steve can you give me a hand off this bicycle, sir it’s a heck of long way up here, up and down these rolling plain?

Sl: Your right on that honey, and let me help out, oops anytime.

Bbb: let’s start off on how long has the band been together and how did it get started and who are the members?

Sl: (a) It started with the accordion player and myself playing in school talent shows at the age 11 been playing together ever since.

(b) We helped out Jonny Martinez and Grupo Bravo for years, he pushed us to start Thoze Guyz, and we can't thank him enough.

(c) Thoze Guyz have been going strong for the last 7 years with member Steve Lujan bass player/vocals, Estevan Cerda accordian player/vocals, David Ruiz guitar/ vocals, Joe Manuel Ramirez drums/ vocals.

Bbb; can you please explain CRUNKJUNTO?

Sl:Crunkjunto is a mixture of conjunto, tejano, honky tonk, blues, rap and soft rock put it all together and it becomes Crunkjunto.

BBB; wow, that’s heavy, what makes the Thoze GuyZ so exciting en la onda tejana?

Sl: We play what we feel and we feel what we play.

BBB: What performance stands out from all the rest?

Sl: Each performance stands out and is special to us in its own way.

BBB: I noticed on your face book that you have been invited to be part of that show case in Las Vegas, how do you feel about that?

Sl: Its a honor to be apart of the Show Case, such great talent and just knowing that we are apart makes the struggles in life worth it. 'Thanks Shelly Lares and Sara Chavez from Latin Point'

BBB: Steve just to let you know that Sara Chavez is my first cousin, how difficult has it been for THOZE GUYZ, to get to where you are now?

Sl: Hard, hard and hard but we wouldn't change anything.

BBB; how much traveling does the THOZE GUYZ do doing the year?

Sl: As much as we can, God had blessed us and kept us busy.

BBB: have THOZE GUYZ won any Tejano awards?

Sl; Not yet, it’s a matter of time.

BBB: tells about some of the interviews and past performances that THOZE GUYZ have done and performed?

Sl; This will be our 3rd year to play in Vegas, we've played in Tuscon at the Sol Casino, San Antonio at Fan Fair, The Rancho Alegre in Austin. Its really hard to say because every gig and interview means something to us. And now with on the road again, its an honor.

BBB; if given a chance to speak with a group  of young people what encouraging words would you use?

SL; Its a rough road but as long as you surround yourself with people who believe in you and believe in yourself anything is possible. Keep three things in mind: unity, faith, and sacrifice and with these tools you can accomplish your goals.

BBB: and finally Steve what would you like to tell your fan base from around the world?

Sl; Thank ya'll and without ya'll we are nothing. Viva la causa and the Crunkjunto Movement

BBB: well Steve let me thank you for allowing us to come here and do this interview, do you think we can hang out awhile before we head back to Kingsville,tx?

Alice, Texas. Hello I am Santa Cecilia la que te canta con on the road again interview. This week our bicycle ride doesn’t take us too far, but a few pumps here and there and were are here in Alice, Texas to interview el senor y la voz de Juan Sifuentes jr. now let us get to this historical interview:
Sc: como esta Mr. Juan and can you give us a hand off this bicycle?
Js; Sure, Always glad to help a lady.

SC: first of all I surely want to share our sympathy about your son and we all feel your pain and we want to let you know we are here for you if you ever need to talk?
Js: Thank You so much. My wife and I appreciate that so much. It’s hard really hard.

Sc: let us discuss a major decision you made this weekend but let say “ accepting ” a new challenge by joining a new band, can you tell us the name of that conjunto and where they are from?
Js: Sure. The conjunto belongs to my cousin Arnold Jimenez. The name is still being discussed. Arnold is Cha Cha Jimenez,may he rest in peace, brother. Arnold (guitar,1st voice) is from the valley. The other members are Arnold’s son…Arnold Jr. (bass),Ernest Ruiz (drums) from Corpus Christi, Alfred Garcia (accordion) San Antonio, and Juan sifuentes Jr. (2nd voice) from Alice,Texas.

Sc: having not performed in awhile how did it feel to stand in front with your primo Arnold Jimenez?
Js: Well I had done a song or two on several occasions with me doing the lead vocals but it was an honor doing a whole gig with him. Arnold has had an extensive musical career himself. It may sound a little weird but I actually felt like I had been singing with him for a long time. The style of music, progressive conjunto, is something that I love and grew up with.

Sc: having Dios te ayude in learning the songs, how hard was it for you to get back into the swing of learning and timing?
Js: Well it was work being that the only practice I had was on the stage that night. I really thought I wasn’t going to make it but I was willing to give it my best. I didn’t want the owners of the venue to say that they didn’t want my cousin back…because of me. I do have musical training. I was with the prestigious Alice High School Chorale where I learned as much as I could about the fundamentals of music. I, along with 3 other people, was recruited in the 9th grade. Something that had never been done before.

Sc: we read que you did several interview while in the Dallas area, can you share some of highlights during those interviews?
Js; Well during most of the interviews the subject of my Father, The Late Juan Sifuentes
Sr., comes up. I love talking about my father and I am honored and happy that the people, and the Business, still remember him. I traveled with my father and I get asked question like what it was like for a kid to travel with El Conjunto Bernal. I will be the first to say that it was an honor. I have a sister and my sister and I see my father in a different light. To the world my father was a Tejano Artist. Probably one of the most influential artist to come out of the state of Texas. To my sister and I……He was Daddy and we miss him a lot…..Sorry didn’t mean to get carried away.

Sc; how think you were the rookie on this new band?
Js: Well I actually didn’t get into the business until 1997. I was 39 yrs. Old….That makes me pretty much a rookie. I will always be the student in this business we call TEJANO.

Sc; I notice que you mention some seasoned veterans en la onda, how much work did it take to be on your toes during the performance?
Js: It was a job I had to do. I had to glance at Arnold and watch the movement of his lips so that my lips would pronounce the words at the same time as his. It was also hard because the stage lights were behind him facing my way. At the same time you have to have a “ Good stage Presence”. You can’t appear obvious, to the people, that you haven’t practiced. But it turned out great and I had lots of fun. Some of the women dancing with their man would give me a thumbs up…meaning they were enjoying the music…I like that.

Sc: now that you have committed yourself to this new band, how hard is it going to be on you?
Js; It’s not going to be hard as far as performing. Practice makes perfect. But the death of My Son still lingers in my mind. I understand that my son loved music and this is what he would want me to keep on doing.


sc: Juan in the past you have stood up for us when some many might not agree with our view, especailly when it come to the developement of la onda, do you think too many tejanos just talk about the la onda and its future but fail to implement any of the ideas they recommend, what have you noticein the last eight years on how so many want this for la onda and that for la onda ,pero puro talk?


Jc; The lack of a leader and /or organization willing to help . It has become a " to each his own " situation .....the time for talk has expired . The lack of money is a big factor ...there are so many successful businesses owned by tejanos but they are unwilling ,or afraid to help financially. With all the bickering and chaos going on ...I don't blame them



Sc; you mention earlier que this was the first time you were second voice, compared to the past, how difficult is it to learn this role?
Js: Well Ma’am. As a young boy I used to go to my room. Pull out my record player and put some Bernal Albums. I would stand in front of a mirror, get a hairbrush for a microphone, and try to do all three voices of Bernal. Not at the same time….LOL…My choir training had a lot to do with it. Some of the songs we sang that night were from the days of Los Chachos and Conjunto Bernal. To this day I still try to do multiple voices that I hear on the radio or a CD. After we did the first song I was pretty much at ease.

Sc; you did mention que one of the highlights of this trip was teaming up con the one and only Crazy chuy, how did that go?
Js: I met crazy chuy when he was inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2003. When I shook his hand I felt like I had known him all my life. We have been like brothers ever since that day. Crazy Chuy is an excellent radio personality. He is definitely in his element. He is also a walking dictionary for Tejano Music History.

Sc; when you were in the Dallas area, you mention you had not been there in awhile, have things changed at all, con la onda?
Js: The last time I was there was when they held the Tejano Music Convention the first time in Dallas. Too many People and it was sort of an unpleasant experience. It only takes a couple of people to ruin a whole night. It was a whole different scenario this time. I was among a smaller group of Mi Gente and it was awesome. I like to get one on one with people and talk about music and I love to hear the memories that the people have of my father. These people were very humble people and THEY LOVED TO DANCE. It reminded me of the days of the Joe Lozano dances.

Sc: what is in the future for Juan Sifuentes Jr en la onda ?
Js: To Live Life to the fullest and continue with the music as long as I can. I am not my father, and I understand that, but I am my father’s son. I am definitely not on top of the totem pole….but I am not on the bottom either. I have never asked how much I am going to get paid….NEVER. And it works out perfect for me. I have witnessed Tejano Music History Being Made, from a FRONT ROW SEAT and will continue to do so as long as GOD allows me to.

Sc: coming from a family de musicos, what memories do you have of your famour father Juan Sifuentes?
Js; I have a Treasure of Memories of my father. The main thing that he tried to teach me was to stay humble. To never forget where I came from. We were never rich. We lived in a one bedroom shack the first 6 years of my life. We had an outhouse and we had to take a bath in a cuartito made of tin. My father would talk music to me but at that time it was all Chinese to me. My father never sat down with me to teach me music. HE TAUGHT ME NOTHING DIRECTLY. He never wanted me to sing. My first teacher was the Bernal Albums…Then the choir. The traveling with Bernal and my Dad was the best part of growing up. There was times when I felt that he didn’t love me. I remember him telling me that he could say “ I love you “ to me till he was blue in the face but I would never really understand how much until I would have my first born…..Then I would understand just how much he loved me…..What he told me was true. My Father was my Teacher of LIFE….and he was the best….

SC: Juan has la onda Tejana really changed that much from back then?
Js: It has changed quit a bit. Even the music. Some of it has evolved to something else and some has “mutated “ so to speak. There are still a few who remain true to the sound of yesteryear. Especially the young conjunto groups. I believe that most of them make our people and culture proud. Back in the days the groups had there own distinct sound. The accordion players would give their instrument it’s own personality (can you believe that ). Today we have a lot of “Clone” groups that sound too much like each other. But I see a light at the end of the tunnel. The younger groups are coming up with their own style and sound. I see the people responding more positive towards the music.

Sc; I am sure there are so many thing you would like to tell us about your musical career, how does one get started?
Js: You have to love it first and foremost. Then you have to make a commitment to it. It usually better to start at a young age. I personally got hooked at a very young age when I saw Ray Charles on TV…I was about 5 yrs. Old. I said to myself, “ I want to do that.”

Sc: again Juan thank you for your time in doing this interview?
Js: It was my honor and pleasure Ma’am…..You might want to check the air on your tires….Take Care.
