EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW ‘con’ [Mary Margaret Park]:
Saint Charles, MO (CCHWNN) February 28th, 2011 -- My name is Santa Cecilia
con on the road again interviews. This week, my creator has sent me on a very
interesting task of interview, a young lady that just released a sing cd, “Donde
Voy Estar”, that should on the airwaves real soon, but enough of that, let’s get to
that interview…
SC: Hello dear, how are we doing? My god, it was a long bicycle ride here, can
you give me a hand off this bicycle, Mary?
Mary: I’m doing fine, but you look a little winded, here you go chica, y sabes
que? It looks like you have a flat tire.
SC: Let us start, how in the world does a creative person with some much skills
get involved in endeavor as release a Tejano song named “Donde Voy Estar”?
Mary: Well, it was a culmination of things. I had completed backing vocals for a
German styled Cumbia version of [Palomita Blanca], and was then scheduled to
work on some Electronic songs the week after. During this time, I had been
listening to the [Wild Orchid] original soundtrack, and it put me in the mood to do
something worldly and expressive. I had just finished recording a separate
Tejano Two-Step song with Sekrett Scilensce, and had mentioned that it would
be great for me to record a song similar to that, because the music is so heartfelt
and sexy, or maybe something with congas, you know, the whole tropical feel. I
felt that a Cumbia might come across overdone, especially since any rendition I’d
do would have a lot of Electro influence. I went back to listen to some vintage
Tejano recordings and reheard [The Peanuts Polka]. All I can say is, the light
bulb lit.
SC: Can you give us a little bit of information on your musical background?
Mary: Todo mi familia is musical, I started singing and playing the piano when I
was little. My Sister was a Classical Pianist also, so I was influenced heavily by
[Bach], [Beethoven], [Mozart], and [Chopin]. I sang in various choirs and have
always loved songs with rich harmonies. Our family often gathered around the
piano and we’d sing in three and four part harmony. I learned to play the flute in
elementary school. By the time I was in high school, I was playing the piccolo
and saxophone also. It is basically an addiction I refuse to be treated for.
SC: Who is Kuneo Koei and what does it represent?
Mary: [Kuneo Koei] is the collaborative catalogue management company of the
[MMP Publishing] and [Sekrett Scilensce Associates] registered titles database.
The company handles our rights and distribution, while serving as a safe haven
for artistic endeavors that are uninhibited and anti mainstream, give or take a
request by fans to do something fun or fluffy. Our videogame music selections
are probably the extent of any such request.
SC; As you mention before, that you have worked very close con music
composer and producer Sekret Scilensce, how did that come about?
Mary: Ss (Sekrett Scilensce) and I met several years ago, and have become
best friends since. We often consult one another on our creative endeavors, both
musical and written. In the beginning, I was a fan in love with his work. He had
been busy traveling in Upstate New York, so there was a small gap in
communication. I had sent him many writings while waiting to hear back from
him. He returned and said to me, “Okay, I read them, now let’s get beyond
these”. About a week later, he hired me to do some press writing. It became clear
that he was on a mission to have me duke it out with myself, publically.
SC: I see that your major interest is writing. How difficult is it to be a creative
writer and how long have you being doing this?
Mary: I’ve loved reading and writing since I was a kid. After I met Sekh (Ss), and
he’d read some of my poetry, he said, “Schreiben Sie eine verdammt Roman
bereits”, which basically means, “Write a damn novel already”. I’ve been writing
on a regular basis again for the last six years, and am now working on my third
novel. I love writing. Sometimes it comes easily to me, but sometimes, it’s really
difficult. In the end, when the story comes together, it’s totally worth the stress.
SC: Who are some of the major Tejano influences in your life that made you
want to record this new single, “Donde Voy Estar”?
Mary: I really enjoy the music of [Laura Canales], [The Latin Breed], and [Gary
Hobbs]. In my mind, [Donde Voy Estar] ended up harkening to the traditional
ballroom polka sound. I guess because artists like [Jay Perez] are still releasing
music, you could say it isn’t completely stilted, and while I enjoy that sound too, I
just haven’t heard it changed all that much over the years, respectfully. Who
knows what listeners will think though?
SC: As a child, did you ever dream of achieving some much in your life?
Mary: I’ve always gone after the things I really wanted. All it takes is the desire
and a willingness to work hard, and you know, occasionally taking off your
chancla, para tu sabes, pelear.
SC: I read somewhere that you have earned a Bachelor’s of Science in
Pharmacy and a Minor in Chemistry, how did that come about?
Mary: I’ve always been fascinated by the nature of things, how they work, the
intricacies, so going into science was natural for me. I figured I’d be living the
‘starving artist’ lifestyle, no matter what I pursued for a while, so choosing the
medical field to fuel my passions was a perfect match.
SC; Do you think your talent in music will have a big impact in Tejano scene?
Mary: I love making and singing the songs. If people enjoy listening then I’m
fortunate.
SC: If given the chance to speak with a group of young people, what
encouraging words would you say to them?
Mary: Like many have said, follow your dreams, work hard, and don’t ever let
anyone tell you that you can’t achieve them. Nunca te rindas.
SC: Finally Mary, what would like to share with your fan base and the Tejano
world about Mary Margaret Park?
Mary: From all corners of the globe, for la onda Tejana, si viva la frontera.
SC: Thanks again Mary, and girl, can you give me a hand back on this bicycle
and point to me which way is the freeway?
Mary: Okay chica, but the direction depends on where you are going from here.
SC; As l ride my bicycle into the sunset, I ask myself, that la onda Tejana has

barrio stimulus check for 2011

Kingsville,tx. Hello again I am General Fideo Vermicelli with some dam good news for the hood. We just got word from our barrio founding fathers and a few mothers that the barrio lotto 2011 will be giving out 2011 Barrio Stimulus Checks for those families that might be eligible. The only major problem is how much money is there to give away?
Now with that information is Johnnie el quemo!
Si thank you Fideo, well the major problem is that el barrio lotto was able to generate about $2000, this past year and the barrio lotto folks decided to give the left over funds, of course after administrative cost. So here is the breakdown on how much will be available for those that might be eligible?
Total funds : $2000.00.
Administrative cost 20%= $400.
Cost to print forms =$100.
Cost for el primo to deliver forms=$200.
Cost to let people know = $300.
Total cost for stimulus check program=$1000.
In addition there will be a tax charge of 38% from the $1000. That will be available to give away. That equals to $380. Now ,leaving a grant total of $620.00, to be awarded.
Then of course, there the issue of local tax and state tax, and federal tax, and barrio tax, which come to a total of $358. Leaving available $ 272 for our barrio stimulus check for the year.
So as you can see Fideo, its lots of money for a few folks. So don’t lose hope and be sure and be looking for that check.

Kingsville,tx. Hello again raza its me Santa Cecilia la que canta con on the road interview. Since the weather is mucho better we have taken the task of riding my bicycle up to Odessa, Texas where I met up con Mr. Juan Sanchez del grupo Erupcion. Let us get to that interview now>
SC; como esta Mr. Sanchez and I want thank you for giving us a few moments of your time for this interview, by the way can you help me get off this bicycle?
JS: I am doing good thank u and let me give you a hand big girl.
SC: let’s us start by asking how long have you been in the music business?
JS: I have been in the music business for over 30 years and counting.
SC: can you give us a little bit on the name of the group Erupcion and how it came about?
JS: Grupo Erupcion is run by my four kids, my 2 sons and my 2 daughters. I raised them to become musicians and take place of all the troubles of looking for musicians down the road.
SC: very good point, how hard is it on your family life been a full time musican?
JS: It is very hard knowing that my wife and I raised them around music all their lives, we would move around alot just to keep my family together. That’s one thing I thank god for is keeping my family together, never the less did we ever kept them away from there academics/sports. My wife and I put them all through school and college and still manage to keep them as musicians.
SC: I noticed that you recorded con label Hacienda records, how difficult is it to work with a recording company?
JS: It wasn’t to bad because we actually recorded our whole album in 13 hours, so that makes me proud of my kids.
SC: what were your dreams as a child, did you ever think Juan Sanchez would be recording one day?
JS: My dreams were to be famous one day and making my own music/songs. Yes I did just didn’t actually know how long it would take me.
SC: how have crowds respond to your performances around the country, and is there any differences between state to state crowds?
JS: They have responded very good knowing that I have raised my kids to play every kind and style of music, so we pretty much read what the crowd wants as far as dancing and their liking. So they love it!
SC: if given the chance to speak to a group of young people what encouraging words would you say to them?
JS: If you love music continue loving what you do as a musician because DREAMS DO COME TRUE and never let nobody tell you any different...
SC: what is in the future for Juan Sanchez ?
JS: To record with a bigger label and actually have a label behind us 100%
SC; how difficult is it to keep a band together?
JS: Not that difficult, I chose to raise my kids as musicians so I knew nobody had that choice to get out at the time...I struggled growing up to keep a band together for the cause of them wanting to get married and have a family, and now I don't have to think about it because my kids are there and I know will never let me down.
SC; and finally Juan is there anything you would like to share with your fans from around the world?
JS: Yes I will keep doing what I do best, that’s continue with my music for our fans. We know they will never let us down. Thanks for your support!

Ten chickens and five turkeys found.
Junior high large crow mascot shot died.
And finally school cafeteria being investigated.
Yesterday school district official visited el Centro for education school cafeteria after charges were filed against some of its cooks for substituting power eggs for real eggs on their school menu. The report tell us que the cooks at the centro cafeteria had been taking home large number of eggs on a daily bases, claiming que they weren’t any good or were egg shells. But it turned out que while trying to dump them in the trash, several relatives of them workers were waiting to pick up the load of eggs and rush them home to real sale to local chain stores go and stop. Charges are pending and it might take up too several days to determine who was on this scam.
A well known local gun smith and a sharp shooter, Benny Mayo, was demonstrating his gun skills to a group of special ed. children when his gun went off accidently and killed the school mascot, the largest Crow ever seen in this parts of the world. It so happen que the crow was sitting in the corner of the class room when the gun went off, shooting the crow’s head off. No children were injured, but a large number of teachers and the school nurse tired to super glue the crow’s head back on to no prevail. School official are determining if charges should be filed again Mr. Torres, or just ask him to replace that crow. I guess they didn’t have vato super glue. Oh well.
In other news,The constable is asking for your help in determining who this chickens and turkeys belong to. The constable told us que he came across them late last night and it took him about one hour to either gather them together or just plain run over them with his car. He told que the some these poor little animals were kind of seriously hurt but some might be able to half survived the running over. Please contact our office If you have any information about them.

And finally, constable cadena reelected for two more years.
Well its official el constable cadena got reelected again for his fifth term as el barrio constable. He got 250 votes out 35 possible votes. The election recount committees refuse to do a recount since no one ran again him. Congratulations Mr. Cadena.
In other news,Yesterday afternoon the annual barrio spelling Bee was canceled when all twenty contestants failed to spell one word. The judges felt que they were doing the right thing in cancelling this event when none of the twenty couldn’t spell “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. One of the judges told us que next year they plan on starting the contest con some easy words, such as you, him, and her and so on. From there I thing we can work our way up to bigger words.
And finally,Yesterday afternoon the barrio was shocked to find at least three new families that could actually read and write the way we are suppose too move into the hood this past month. La familia yosabatodo and yosaque told this reporter that they just can’t stand folks that were in school and college and got a masters degree and still can’t spell or write for shit. These new families will address the barrio leaders at their next meeting with their concerns.

In the last few days we have received so much hate mail que we are wondering if it’s the same person that wanted us off the internet. Huh. Like we said before we are not going to stop writing regardless of our childish writing skill but plan to increase our reporting in the Kingsville area. Thanks .
El constable has not released the names of the ten barrio and eastside residents names that got busted this pasted weekend. Our sources say it could be a bunch of persons that have really nothing to do. The list will be posted on our website says el constable.
Yesterday a rally of about ten persons demonstrated in front of our barrio community center showing support for keeping the 1957 christmas light decorations up for the rest of the year. El constable has not released the names of the ten barrio and eastside residents names that got busted this pasted weekend. Our sources say it could be a bunch of persons that have really nothing to do. The list will be posted on our website says el constable.
Yesterday a rally of about ten persons demonstrated in front of our barrio community center showing support for keeping the 1957 christmas light decorations up for the rest of the year. SC: Hello Jacob and thanks for giving us this interview and by the way love that tan. Can you please help me off this bicycle?
JD: Absolutely, thanks for meeting me down here in Galveston. The weather sure is nice, perffect day for a Tejano Cruise!
SC: how in the world did you get started in this Cruises business?
JD: Well, this wasn't suppose to be a business at first! This was only suppose to be for 50 close friends and family. I started a website (for my family), titled it www.tejanocruise.com and within 24 hours, people were calling in to book the cruise. After 15 days, we had over 1100 people from 32 different states and 4 countries booked with us. Originally, we booked only one band but quickly realized we needed to book more to make it TEJANO CRUISE party! Soon after, the parent company began to take form, SOUNDWAVE CRUISES. Under the parent company, we now do cruises for different companies and we are in the planning stages for
our Texas Country Cruise.
SC: what tejano groups have performed on your cruise?
JD: We just wrapped off our inaugural Tejano Cruise #1 followed by a back to back cruise, Tejano Cruise #2. We had Los Desperadoz, Los TexManiacs, David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales, Da Krazy Pimpz, Jaime Y Los Chamacos and Jay Perez! Talk about a Tejano party! We had a private beach party in Cozumel with an open bar and a Tejano DJ! Tons of fun.
SC: did you ever have any doubts that it might not work?
JD: Doubts, no. Because I always knew Tejano lovers were plentyful.
SC: how difficult is it to port in Mexico now a days?
JD: Not at all difficult. Currently, the US Government does require passports on our cruises so American citizens only need a valid state issued id and a certified birth certificate. This makes travel a whole lot easier for all Tejano Cruise passengers.
SC; what has been some of the feed back you get from folks that have traveled on your cruises?
JD: The feedback has been great. We see that about 90% of our travelers return for the very next cruise. People coming from different parts of the US do not get this many Tejano bands so to see them multiple times and up close and personal is a dream come true for the majority of our passengers.
SC; how close can a person get to those tejano artist on the cruise?
JD: In fact, these artist are with you at the casino, at dinner, at the pool and hot tubs, at the bars, at the disco; it is a very up and close trip with these artist.
SC: does anyone ever get sea sick?
JD: Since we go in late Jan or early Feb, there is hardly any motion. There is very little and you can get a patch put behind you ear to help with the motion but once you are on the ship, that is 4 football fields long and 9 stories high, you even forget you are on a ship. It feels more like a 5 day non-stop TEJANO FIESTA!
SC: how many cruises do you usually plan per year?
JD: We did 2 back to back cruises in 2011 and we have one, so far, planned on Feb 13-18, 2012. Although we are a year away, we are close to being sold out! We do a payment plan to make it easier for everyone.
SC: I noticed que you have a playment plan, how does that work? (do you accept food stamps, you can delete this part, lol).
JD: lol. currently, we take checks or money orders. Simply go to
www.soundwavecruises.com and click on the BOOK NOW button on the top right hand corner. Print up the form, fill it out and mail it in with your deposit of $100 per person. Your confirmation page is emailed to you with your payment plan. That's it! And no we don’t take food stamp, sorry.
SC: What is in the future for Soundwave Cruises?
JD: Well, Soundwave Cruises is currently in the planning stages of our Texas Country Cruise but our baby is the TEJANO CRUISE. We eventually want to do a full ship of Tejanos.
SC: if a person came an asked you about a business idea that might sound ridiculous, what would your answer be?
JD: Take it to several close friends and family that can give you their honest opinion. If you feel strongly about it, move forward.

Yesterday afternoon we had a chance to visit con a man who has paid his debt to society by spending the last three years in prison. Mr. Orlando Munoz, was released a few months back and came out real inspired by opening his own business. Well yesterday afternoon on his daily route, Mr. Munoz was shot twice in the leg, once in back, once in the right arm, once on his left foot, once in his left ear , once to his right side of his head, once on both knee caps and one shot to his right hand. He did manage to get to his bicycle and made it to the St. Paul’s medical center.
While in prison he picked up a trade and was released with a certified Chef, with this in mind he started his own traveling meals company named “ Un Guato will travel”! Yes you got that right un guato is the name of his company that specializes selling homemade Potato salad. A quato is a small amount of whatever usually sold in a plastic bag.
What he does is he sells guatos of potato salad, in several baggie sizes, two fingers $2.00 a baggie, three fingers $3.00 and he sells them by the oz for $3.00.
Si, says Mr. Munoz, it was a long hard road by I knew when I got out I had this vision off starting my own business, and so far things have been going well, business is good and I have had no trouble con the cops with the name of my company.
We plan on expanding our company to across the tracks and then maybe on the net. It’s a big investment and interest and I just hope que “UN Guato will travel” will catch on.
Ok folks there you have it a big man con a big vision, and we now call him lucky, I am Maria La Vandina.

Kingsville, TX.hello again raza, I am Santa Cecilia la que canta con this official press release, the spoke person for the Lil Red has confirmed que the band will no longer be. Its seems that the 4 mariachi brothers have decided to break away from Lil Red.
As you might already know que Lil Red y 4 Mariachi Dudes are a make believe conjunto and are the only ones in the history of Barrio Music award winner for 2010 that won every category been offered that year..
Juan Mariachi the oldest of the Mariachi Dudes told us que they were tired of her, dude to the fact que they had not been paid for the last three months and that they have also been unable to finish a concert due to her action on and off the stage. The riots she has caused has caused us to decided que we the Mariachi Dudes need to go on our own. Beside all that she is being sued for her actions by at least three contract holders for failure to meet her obligation.
The Mariachi Dudes consist of Juan Mariachi 38, his twin brothers Johnnie and John Mariachi age 35 and their youngest brother Jamie Mariachi age not disclosed. All four brothers have agreed to terminate their contract con Lil Red.
Lil Red is considered the lady gaga of tejano music and not to be confused con a new make believe tejana artist La Seniora CaCa. Both women look very similar in the way they perform and some say que its Lil Red wearing a wrestler’s mask to cover her identity. But that is not a fact.

Yesterday our barrio community center presented to a pack house of 8 people wanting to know the result of this survey taken a few months back. The intention of this study says Irma Salinas the community aide was to determined the status of community members and their families. Here are the results from that study.
1. The study indicated that there are more common law marriages in the hood now than ever before. Community leaders feel that the loss of revenue in not selling marriage licenses could see a decrease in city and county services. There are several reasons why folks are not getting married says Irma but that’s another study.
2. The study also discovered that the divorce rate has come down since 1999. And of course there are some indicators that indicate that due to the fact that barrio members are not getting married.
3. And finally the study indicated that there are more single parents than ever. And of course many barrio members that are living together are more common law marriage than married. So when they apply for state and federal aid off course they indicated not married but they really are but common law marriage but in some cases the state does not recognize common law marriages.

The annual Barrio Here Boy dog show opened today at our Westinghouse barrio mall. It seems that we have a larger amount of dogs that entered the event this year compared to past year says el barrio own dog whisper Ben here boy Torres. After talking to Mr. Turkey, it seemed that he got his groups mixed up and stood next to the folks protesting the show and in which he thought that they were for the show. He got kicked, mugged, bitten and who knows what else. Mr. Turkey told us that he didn’t mind the ass kicking but he got a bit disappointed when they tore his mascot head off his head and ripped apart. Now he feels that everybody that was there knows who he really is.

Kingsville,tx. Hello again I am blanca blanch blanco here con one of the youngest tejano bands on the market. Los Curita’s. my recent visit to Fort Collins, Colorado. Our visit con a very young tejano band named Los Curtia’s. So with that in mind lets go to fort Collins, where you can see the beautiful Rocky Mountians, with our new friends Juan and Juaquin.
BBB: I want to thank you guys, members of Los Curita’s for sharing some time with me here in your home in Fort Collins, Colorado?
Los C’s: First all, we want to thank you blanca, blanch blanco for taking the time to interview us. Are you bitter cold yet in our recent snowfall that landed almost 7 inches of snow today?
BBB: Who has been the major inspiration in your young musical career?
Los C’s: Juan: My (Pampo) Grandpa .
Juaquin: My (Pampo) Grandfather and of course other artists like Jay Perez, Little Joe and Latin Breed.
BBB: -We see that you named your group was named and founded by your grandfather. Long-time tejano musician and Colorado chicano music hall famer, Henry Salas (aka: pampo), how did his influences moderate your band?
Los C’s? Juan: Well, our pampo helps us a lot with our music and our musicians and what he thinks we would like. But, he always lets us make the final decision on song selections etc... he's pretty old school-lol!
Juaquin: My (Pampo) grandfather has always had a passion for Tejano music. He has a fantastic ear and we have been fortunate to have him teach us a lot. I don't think I could have learned what I've learned without him. He's also pretty honest and to the point with us. He takes his music pretty serious.
BBB: – You started your musical career as a young children, What attracted you to these instruments?
Los C’s: Juan: When my (Pampo) grandfather introduced me to the guitar and the bass, he had me play a polka and follow along with him. I really liked the song and I couldn't believe that I picked it up like nothing. I never put the instruments down after that.
Juaquin = I have always had a passion to sing since I was about 3 years old. I don't know, my (Pampo) grandfather just always had me sing along to his guitar and then when I had my first opportunity to actually get on stage, it was at the Cinco De Mayo celebration in Fort Collins. After that, it was like no other experience!
BBB: – Do you have a favourite piece of music that you guys perform?
Los C’s: Yes! We love to get the crowd and the energy going and it's usually to a cumbia!
BBB: Are you guys pleased with choice of music and performaces you have done?
Los C’s: Of course, we love Tejano music, but we can play a lot of other genres too. That's the cool thing about being a Tejano musician you can put tejano in just about anything.
BBB: How busy do you guys get in prepared a show?”
Los C’s: We get pretty busy when we have a show because we have to practice a lot.
BBB: Do you have a definite start for any new release AND How about your latest cd/video?
Los C”s: We don't have an actual date set to release our CD, but we hope to have it out by summer of 2009. We are working on our CD with some great established musicians right now. As far as a video, it is also in the works.
BBB: -What can we expect from the forthcoming?
Los C’s: You can expect more music coming from us soon! We also have a remix of Cuatro Vida's coming out that's slick! It will have a full 13 piece horn section and will be featured on a CD that's yet to be announced.
BBB: and finally what would tell the young people that might be interested in pursuing a musical career en la onda tejana?
Los C’s: Juan: Never stop dreaming. Pursue your dreams and always remember to practice!

Somewhere in san anto, tejas. Hello again my name is Jonathon barrios con a very special interview con un tejana con a brand new onda. It gave us great pleasure to have been given a few moments of her real busy schedule.
Jonathon barrios: gee Kristie I am honor today con su presents and allowing us this interview?
KV: Thank you for taking time to do this interview to help spread the word to la onda about me and my music.
JB: on your web site you have a song download “ la misma mujer”, did you write this one and was this your first release?
KV: Yes La Misma Mujer came from a demo project I started with 3x Grammy Award Producer Chris Dominguez" Urbano B". My plan was to record a couple of songs with him to put out there to get a start in the Tejano Music Industry. La Misma Mujer was the fruit of our labor. We sat down and wrote the song together. It was so important for me to have my own original music for people to remember me by. Chris added a hip new flavor to the mix. We were successful with it and it ended up being a pretty memorable song ,very catchy. I was so excited about it that I did not finish the rest of the project. I felt very confident about the single and I took the single down to my local Tejano Radio Station Majic 95.9 in Victoria, Tx and sold myself to the PD. He loved it and they automatically put it into rotation.
JB. you now live in san anto but maintain not to be from there?
KV: I was born and raised in Port Lavaca,Tx. A small town that sits on the gulf. More of a retirement community you might say. I loved it there. I then moved a little further down the road to Victoria,Tx. and resided there for a while. When I decided to pursue the music career what better place to be than in the Tejano Capital of the World. Living in the city is a big adjustment for me. More people , more traffic but I am getting used to it. I love it here.
Jb : I noticed that you posted that 2007 was the beginning of your musical journey, can you express the way you felt when you heard your first single on the airwaves?
KV: It was March 17, about 1:14 p.m. I walked out of the radio station and just sat in my car in the parking lot tuned into the radio station. A song played and then next thing you know it happened for me. They introduced me and the song began to play. I cried and in the midst of crying I dialed everyone's number in my phone to share the great news for them to tune in. It would play once in the morning and then in the afternoon everyday. The coolest part was when I picked up my kids from school and we were tuned in and it began to play. They were so excited to hear mommy on the radio. They sang along at the top of their lungs. They even took a copy of my song to their class to teach their friends. Mind you they were only in Pre K AND Ist Grade. I 'll never forget all these memorable moments.
Jb; what advantages do you see using the internet in promoting your new cd and your elf?
KV:I owe all my success to the internet. I had no savings to fund this dream. Just a dream and my faith in God. I had no connections in the Tejano Industry. I did not have the money to travel to meet people even if I new who to talk to. My myspace has allowed me to connect with the world and to meet people and artist in the industry via the web. It did not cost a thing to sit on the computer day and night and network to find the connection i needed to get in the industry. All my sleepless nights of being on this computer have payed off and played an important role in getting me in contact with my promoter and record label.
Jb: I am not sure but what instrument would you like to learn to play that you do not currently know how to play?
KV:I was a band nerd in high school. I played clarinet and jammed out in the percussion line. I would love to play the piano.
Jb: your new cd to be released real soon, can you tell how much work did it take and the selection one has to choose to place on the cd?
KV:It has taken me a yr to complete the album. Being so new in the industry I left the selections up to my very talented producer Ernie Gonzalez. He has been in the business for a while and he knows what the people want to hear. Although I did make one special request. I recorded a song for my children. It is our special song and they are going to love it.
Jb: when it comes to your music, which is easier to deal with? Praise or criticism?
KV:That is a very good question. I can handle both pretty well. I sat back for years and just studied the industry. I frequented the message board. Female artist sights. I watched and read how other up and coming female artist were being criticized. In doing that I educated myself on what to do and what not to do. I listened and read what the people wanted. I have already built up a layer of tough skin coming into this industry. It is so hard for women to break thru the barriers in this male dominated industry. So many female artist have come and gone and I plan to be around for a long time. Many people have told me they admire my drive and my confidence to succeed. I always say, "If you do not believe in yourself, noone else will ". I am doing this for my children so they can continue to pass our music and culture on to the next generation. I have been praised and criticized and there is alot more of both to come. I am ready.
Jb: if you could step into the shoes of any tejano legends in history and tour as them for one week , who would it be and why?
KV: Of course it would be Selena. She possessed such energy and could draw people in to her. She was so beautiful and talented. The complete package.
Jb: and finally, what was your childhood dream?
Kv.: I am gonna be straight up with you. I had no childhood dream. Maybe I am just weird like that. I just never knew what I wanted to do or be until my high school yrs when I first took that mike in my hand and sang me first Tejano Song. Sometimes dreams find you I guess.

Barrio residents have been told not to come by our barrio community center due to the fact que its already full. We recommend que you stay home or walk around the mall for a few hours and then go home. But what ever you do don’t bother us here. We just don’t have room for anymore persons, said the center director.
There are lots of pendejos (of course in a modest way) in the hood that think they know what to do in cold weather. Regardless if you do or don’t here is our list of somethings you shouldn’t do:
1. Avoid drinking caffeine or alcohol if you think you might have hypothermia or frostbite.
2. Be careful with candles. Do not use candles for lighting if the power goes out. Use flashlights only
3. Inspect fireplaces and wood stoves yearly. Use a sturdy fire screen with lit fires. Burn only wood. Never burn paper or pine boughs or old bills, or that sears catalog you still have around.
4. Then use food from the freezer. A full freezer will keep the temperature for about 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) if the door remains closed. Use your non-perishable foods and staples after using food from the refrigerator and freezer. Here is a good chance to use those food stamps.
5. Check smoke alarms. Make sure alarms are working properly and replace batteries as necessary. And for sure don’t be smoking weed under the smoke alarm, the cops might just come by and what’s going on.
6. Remove wet clothes immediately and help warm your core body temperature by wrapping yourself in a blanket con la commadre or drinking warm fluids like hot cider or soup.
Again raza, As temperatures drop, los vato’s locos volunteer firefighters urges residents to take steps to guard against hypothermia and other emergencies common during severely cold weather. This cold front will brings quiet dangers such as brutally cold temperatures, said el mero loca volunteer and everyone, especially senior citizens and children, should take precautions to guard against hypothermia and especially now with the heavy winds and extreme cold,
And finally,Bad news hit the hood today at the barrio traditional Taqucha fest, where Homie el taqucha, the Westinghouse barrio mall pet was suppose to come and look for it’s shadow, pero como it was so cold que esta taqucha didn’t even come out of its hole to see if there was any sun at all. El barrio forecast till Easter keep warn and keep cool. Chinga.

It is hard to describe how one feels when one is given the opportunity to interview a man who has been in the entertaining business for over five decades. I am referring to none other than, Mr. Carlos Guzman. Again here is this historical documentary.
Sc: gee Mr. Guzman you are so much taller than I thought you were. Mr. Guzman, I hate to bother you with this pero before we get started, will you please help me off my bicycle? Es que me duele la rodilla. I fell in the monte on my ride down here porque an 18 wheeler passed me up and the winddraft pushed me off the highway. Thank you sir
CG: Your welcome.
SC: is it easy being the legendary Carlos Guzman, a proud, sincere man who has dedicated his life to himself, family and his fans ?
CG: yes, it is. Coming from very humble beginnings, I have to say that fame and good fortune was received with grace, perhaps because it was God’s will.
SC: Mr. Guzman, you've accomplished so much these past 5 decades, can you tell us what other achievements you would like to obtain?
CG: My staff and I just completed a project, the website www.carlosguzman.com. It never occurred to me the importance of the internet, until recently, my now Manager, Paul Westbrook told me “you must leave a legacy” if anything for your family and fans. At the moment we are writing my life story in a book which we hope to publish by the end of the year.
SC: You've been through and seen so much over the years? Would you mind sharing some of those memorable moments with us?
CG: There has been so many that it would be hard to mention them all. I’ll share one in particular “The Golden Globe Awards” in Los Angeles, California. This was given to entertainers who excelled that particular year in the entertainment business, mainly singers. It was quite a moment in my life for I was one of the recipients.
The event was titled “El Globo De Oro” in 1976, by the way it was the only year that event took place because it was conflicting with the American Golden Globe Awards which are still being awarded to date. Another memorable moment that stays in my mind is when I was given the opportunity to act in a movie titled “Los Siete Proscritos” in Mexico City. The leading actor was the legendary “David Reynoso”, which I consider to be my padrino in the movie industry.
I could elaborate a lot of what took place during the filming, but it would take forever. However, it was truly something that motivated me to continue and diversify my career.
Sc: what would you tell a young person interested in starting his or her own musical career?
CG: Now a days, if you’ll notice the exposure the artist is given through the media, be it television and/or radio, I believe it is more demanding. There are many factors that should be considered, voice, looks, and above all grace and being original, to me is very crucial. After considering all these attributes, ask yourself is this for me? For it is not easy. Sometimes luck has a major role.
SC: how difficult and what cost does a person’s relationship with his family and friends have once you devote your entire adult life to the music business?
CG: You lose the sense of what the holidays were about, sharing birthdays…that’s for starters, think for a minute. Five decades of Carlos Guzman traveling half of the world and not have had the time, make that quality time with family and friends. The career was very demanding, I don’t regret it for I think it all has a reason. Perhaps even God’s will.
SC: what major changes have happened in the music business since you started your career in the early 60’s?
CG: Many changes. To mention a few, the disco era, country music boom, Gilley’s etc.. Radio was very supportive to all genres of music and as time went on and changes in the different styles of music was happening, the radio waves supporting some of our music was gradually declining and heading to different directions, norteno, durangense, banda, salsa, merengue and the list goes on and on.
Some of us feel that we have to resort to the internet to get exposure and have our music listened to. So I have to close this particular segment by asking your readers not allow our music heritage fade out.
SC: as we all know, “Vesitida de Blanco” is one of your most popular hits. Is it safe to say that this was the song that boosted your career in the music industry, and why do you think it was such a phenomenal hit for you?
CG: Yes, “Vestida De Blanco” has been my banner song for decades. I have to thank E.J. Ledesma, my best friend and composer of the song as well as a man that cannot recall his name, but wrote the story on the back of the album which by the way was a fictious story but people actually believed it.
So when the album sold like crazy, people would come up to me at the dances and show me their support regarding the story because it was a sad story (not) hellooo. As the years went by people still come up to me and ask if “Did that really happen to you Carlos?”
SC: working so long in the music business, has there ever come a time when Carlos Guzman just wanted to call it quits?
CG: Actually, I did quit for a while. It happened in the 80’s when I collapsed of exhaustion after a performance. I went for a physical and it was determined that I was overdriving myself with my career so I decided to give it up. Understand this, we were working A LOT and it wasn’t fun anymore, it was very demanding.
So I sold my vehicles and equipment, some of it I gave away and dedicated myself to my office which I always had, administrating a big publishing company helping composers from all walks of life. Later, because of the continuous requests from great promoters throughout and convincingly got me back to my calling, but at a different pace. I was more selective with my calendar dates and venues, so, here I am, still enjoying it.
SC: your career has taken you all over the world sir, can you name some of the places your music career has taken you in the last 50 years?
CG: Basically, it’s been two countries Mexico and the United States.
SC: tells us a little bit about the times you appeared in some Spanish Soap Operas and movies and some of the stars you worked with over the years.?
CG: The only soap opera that I acted on that originated in Mexico City in the late 60’s was “El Intruso” which was televised out of Televicentro which collapsed during the earthquake and all archives, films, etc. were lost.
As for movies “Los Siete Proscritos” leading actor David Reynoso, Fernando Casanova, Eric Del Castilo others and myself. Another movie followed, “El Pocho” written and directed by Lalo Gonzalez “El Piporro” the leading actor, Lucha Villa, myself and other lesser known actors. I also had the opportunity to work in a movie made for television “300 Miles for Stefanni” which by the way was the beginning of Edward James Olmos movie career in which he had the leading role.
I had a very small part, but what a moment in my life. Tony Orlando was in the film as well and I can’t recall the rest of the cast. More recently I starred in a movie called “El Segundo”, a production company out of New York that did the shooting in the woods of Alice, TX as well as Three Rivers, San Diego and Corpus Christi, TX.
It’s a great movie and is for sale on line. Alana De La Garza (who now is a regular in Law and Order) and the legendary Pedro Almendariz Jr. and a bunch of new actors and of course, me. In 2007 I also starred in a wonderful story line the movie “Broken Promise” a south Texas Story. Currently this film has only been seen in two major markets the Rio Grande Valley and Houston. SC: what can we expect from Carlos Guzman in 2011?
CG: Well, my new staff and manager have a lot of projects upcoming that includes what I believe is going to be called “My Solo Tour”, subtitled “My Way”. Plans are being put in place to do the Casino circuit throughout and continue to hopefully delight people with new recordings that will be featured on my website.
SC: I've heard that you've also sang gospel music. Is this true, and if so, can you give us a little bit of insight on your inspiratation for cantando gospel music?
CG: Its been the best experience, after over 40 albums of different genres of music. Personally, the best, for it has brought me a lot of great experiences with so many great people throughout that fills my heart and soul with nothing but the best feeling.
SC: Mr. Guzman I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and from the heart of my mother and father who were your greatest fans, for allowing us to do this interview. I am sure my parents would be proud of me and thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to meet with us.
