exclusive interview con los hometown boys,2012

Exclusive interview con The Hometown Boys, 2012.

Cchwnn.

Somewhere in texas. Hi santa Cecilia la que te canta con another on the road interviews. This one takes us up to central texas somewhere to do a follow up interview we did con los Hometown Boys, Bobby Martinez. Now for that interview.

Sc: hello Bobby nice to meet you, can you give me a hand off this bicycle, hejola it’s a long way up here?

BM: Hello, como estas? of course i can give you a hand. yes it is a long trip, The Hometown Boys appreciate you making the trip for this interview. We want to take this time to thank you and everyone else who supports The Hometown Boys throughout the years. De parte de La Familia Martinez and The Hometown Boys....

SC; let’s start off by talking about the two songs off your new cd, “MANTENIEDO LA PROMESA”. First of all how did that come about? second, let’s talk about Perdida en tus suenos, and Rumores?

BM: Our soon to be release C.D. is titled "Manteniendo La Promesa" it means we "keeping the promise" made to my brothers that we would keep The Hometown Boys name, music, and there music style alive and going. That is were the title "Manteniendo La Promesa comes from... As for the songs "Perdida en tus Suenos" which is a ranchera, puro stylo de The Hometown Boys, and "Rumores" which is a cumbia, I wrote both those songs. They came from life experiences. This is my first time writing songs, and i hope people will like them.

This C.D. is special, because I, Bobby Martinez wrote 5 of the songs on the c.d. my dad El Jefe Roman Martinez wrote 4 of the songs, my sister Rosa Linda Perea wrote 1 song, and my accordion player Anthony Trevino wrote the polka "Big Show Special #3" so the c.d. is all original music, and we hope every one enjoys it, we poured our hearts and souls into this c.d.

SC: on our last interview we were very sad to read about the tragic your family has experience this past few years, would you want to discuss that very briefly?

BM: Anyone who has kept up with The Hometown Boys know that 4 of my brothers Roman Jr. - sound engineer, Joe - accordionist and vocalist, Jesse - drummer and Ricky - bass player and main vocalist have passed away over the past few years, along with our biggest fan our mom Maria Dolores who also passed away. They are what keep us going "Manteniendo La Promesa".

SC: how many members of your family are still in band ?

BM: There is my sister Rosa Linda Perea, and my dad El Jefe Roman Martinez..but as far as I'm concerned the other members of The Hometown Boys, Anthony Trevino - accordion, Elias Arredondo - main vocals, Javier Torres - drums, and Luis Flores (homie in training) they are my family also, we spend so much time together on the road, and even when we are not performing we hang out together, I consider them my brothers...

SC : I am more than sure but how does traveling all over the country affect your family life ?

BM; For me personally, it doesn't effect it, because my family is with me on the road..But I know for a fact, that for the other members it is difficult to leave there loved ones for long periods of time, on special occasions also, but music is what they love to do, and that is just one of the sacrifices..

SC: are there times that you just wanted to stop being in a band and work on another career?

Bm: Me never...I gave up a very promising 10 year career in Commercial Photography to come back to music, I stepped away from music for several years, and i realized being a musician is what I really wanted to do..we grew up as kids playing music, it is in our blood...

Sc: how expensive is it to travel nowadays?

Bm: It is very expensive, you have HIGH gas prices, automobile maintenance, insurance, meals, rooms, and incidentals. It all adds up real quick..

SC: what other type of music do you guys listen when you travel?

Bm; We listen to all different types of music from Tejano, Conjunto, Country, Classic Rock and so on. But sometimes we just travel with no music on and just talk and get to know each other even better, I think that is what keeps us so close as a band, we are friends and family.

SC: do you think that major musical awards are giving tejanos a fair share of honors?

Bm: I don't think that we get the recognition we deserve, but that is not going to change until we unit as one.

SC: wit in the last few years sir, have you gotten any awards for your music?

BM: Yes we have, but fist I want to say that the awards and recognition we have received is because of our fans, friends and family support.

We have won Conjunto Album of The Year 2 years in a row from the TTMA, also been nominated for Song of the year Vocalist of the year, also nominated to the Latin Grammy's. El Jefe has been inducted into the Conjunto Hall of Fame, Tejano Roots Hall of Fame, and as a band The Hometown Boys have been inducted into the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame also, and we thank each and every one of you, because if it were not for you, those awards, nominations, and inductions would not have happened.

SC: is there any place that you guys would not go back an perform?

BM: There is no where we wouldn't go back to perform..

SC: and finally, Bobby, if a group of young people asked you for some musical advise, what would it be?

BM; I would tell them first to finish school get an education, and for music, to learn the basics first. Learning the basics will give you a solid foundation for your music, you have to crawl before you can walk, and you have to walk before you can run.

SC: is there anything you would like to tell all your fans from around the world ?

Bm: De parte de La Familia Martinez and The Hometown Boys, I want to thank every one for believing in us and for supporting The Hometown Boys all of these years, and we hope you continue to support us, and that we hope you enjoy our new c.d. "Manteniendo La Promesa". we would like your feed back on what you think of the new music.

SC: ok bobby got to go, say is there a way I can spend the night at your home , because its kind of late and you know a good looking woman like me might not be safe?

BM: Hey The Hometown Boys casa es su casa. Make yourself at home, kick back and relax, you will be safe here.

SC: thanks to la familia Martinez..

BM: Thank you....

Sc; after spending the night here it was a pleasure to have met the whole family. I am santa Cecilia..
